History

Powerscourt Golf Club is situated in the grounds of the magnificent Powerscourt Estate in Co Wicklow. It was originally an important strategic site for the Anglo- Normans who came to Ireland in the late 12th century.

By the year 1300 a castle had been built and was in the possession of the Le Poer (Power) family which it takes its name. In 1961 the Slazenger family purchased the estate from the 9th viscount Powerscourt.

Set in Ireland’s most beautiful countryside with an abundance of mature trees and natural features with stunning views to the sea and the Sugar Loaf Mountains, Powerscourt is simply an exceptional experience for all golfers. The first of the 2 Championship courses here the East opened in 1996. The West opened later in 2003. Both courses have received great reviews and plaudits in their brief history.

The East course hosted the 1998 Irish PGA Championship won by Padraig Harrington following a playoff. Following the success of this event the East course went onto host the 2001 AIB Irish Seniors open. The event was played in glorious sunshine from start to finish and was won by Seiji Ebihara. Our 'Spike' Bar displays many of the resounding images of the 2001 event.

The West course becomes ever more popular year on year and has some wonderful views of the Wicklow Hills, Powerscourt House and the Irish Sea. The West is currently rated among the Top 20 Parkland courses in the country.
